Converting Colors E-mail

Microsoft® Office Publisher® 2007

Color Schemes

In our example we have a document using the Bluebird color scheme. To convert your colors, in the Format Publications panel, select the Color Schemes tab. Then click the Create new color scheme... text at the bottom of the tab.

Accent Colors

Change each Accent color by selecting the down arrow under the New column, and select More colors...

Select Color

You can use the Custom tab to select the nearest process color build, or you can select the PANTONE® tab for the closest spot color. In the example below we are going to select PANTONE 287 C for our blue. Click OK when you have finished making your selection.

Name and Save

After converting each of the Accent colors in your document, type a Color scheme name, and click Save when you are done.

Convert Colors to Inks

Color Printing

Once you have converted your Accent colors to process or spot colors, we will need to convert these Colors to Inks. From the Tools Menu select the Commercial Printing Tools > Color Printing... option.

Define Colors

Select the type of colors you want to use. In the example below, we are converting to Process colors plus spot colors. A confirmation dialog box will appear, click OK to convert all the existing colors to process.

Inks

The process color will now appear under the Inks tab.

Convert to Spot

If you have defined Spot colors or Process colors plus spot colors, then you will need to convert your Accent colors to spot. First select the Colors tab. Select each Accent color one at a time, right click, and select Convert to Spot.

Replace Color

For Accent 5, which is usually white, you can Change or Delete this. In the example below we have selected Delete and the Replace Color dialog box appears. Select the CMYK (0, 0, 0, 0) white and click OK.

Finishing Up

Now your Accent colors will appear as Spot colors under the Inks tab. Click the OK button.

About this Site

Welcome to PrepressX, a unique site devoted to anyone interested in having their graphic projects commercially printed directly from digital files or PDFs. We will continuously upload references, tutorials, and resources that keep you updated with free, cutting-edge information that ensures your final project is ready for press.

On this site we will take a look at how the files you submit to your offset printer effect the final results of the printed piece and the various ways you can positively influence these results. We will explain how to identify potential problems in jobs before they go to press so that you can prevent alteration charges and production delays. We will also endeavor to show you how to retain more creative control, and ultimately receive what you want and expect from your commercial printer the first time.

This site is intended to be accessible and easily absorbed. Although the factors that contribute to a successful printed piece can be numerous, we also endeavor to both simplify and de-mystify your part in this process.

About Us

Printing and graphic professionals write the topics provided in this site, some with more than 20 years experience in the industry. These professionals all have a thorough understanding of the offset printing process, digital file preparation and how to create press-ready PDFs. We will show what commercial printers need from you to produce problem-free printing and how this helps you the customer.

Site Navigation

Please visit the topics in the Topic Menus on the left to navigate the various categories of information that interest you. Content will be updated and added to frequently, largely based on feedback we receive from our viewers and contributing authors, so come back often.
